About Me

Most of my work is backend: architecture, APIs, database design, testing, deployment, and the production support that follows.

Full-stack software engineer based in Dhaka, with 15 years of professional experience building production web applications and leading engineering teams since 2017.

Since April 2022 I have been a core developer at the Public Knowledge Project at Simon Fraser University, working on Open Journal Systems. OJS runs 58,000+ journals across 156 countries, so changes land in front of a very large installed base. I am among the top 10 contributors to both the OJS codebase and pkp-lib.

Alongside that I lead the architecture of Dentall Manager, a multi-tenant SaaS ERP used by 50+ dental and medical clinics in the Netherlands, with a team of eight engineers.

I maintain 15 open-source Laravel packages, installed around 195,000 times between them. One of them, laravel-model-sanitize, was featured on Laravel News.

I have worked with North American and European clients throughout my career, remotely, across wide time-zone gaps. I am open to remote roles anywhere, and to the right on-site role abroad with visa sponsorship.

Public Knowledge Project · since 2022

Public Knowledge Project

I have been a core developer at PKP since April 2022, working on Open Journal Systems, Open Monograph Press and Open Preprint Systems. OJS is the most widely used open-source scholarly publishing platform in the world, running 58,000+ journals across 156 countries.

I am a top 10 contributor to both pkp/ojs and pkp/pkp-lib, with just over 1,000 merged commits across the four main repositories.

Most of that work is infrastructure. I introduced Laravel Eloquent to the data layer, moved core and plugin API routing onto Laravel routing, built the queue and scheduler systems, and integrated the Blade templating engine. I also review community and core pull requests, and support external contributors.

What I Do

  1. 01

    Backend and API Architecture

    Laravel and PHP for the last decade, with Symfony, Node and Rails alongside it. REST API design, database schema, queues and background processing, caching, and the test suites that keep it honest. I usually own the full cycle, from first requirement through to production support.

  2. 02

    Multi-tenant SaaS

    I designed the tenancy model, RBAC and core domain modules for a clinic ERP now used by 50+ practices in the Netherlands. That means I have already met the parts that get hard later: data isolation, per-tenant migrations, billing, and the obligations that come with handling patient data under GDPR.

    Open Source Maintenance

    Ongoing work on the most widely used open-source journal publishing platform (OJS), which runs 58,000+ journals, plus 15 packages of my own. Core application modernization, infrastructure updates, bug fixes, security patches, feature work, documentation, and answering issues from people I will never meet. Working in a fully distributed open-source team changes how you write code, and it made me better at it.

    Engineering Leadership

    Team lead since 2017, most recently for eight engineers. Scoping, technical direction, code review standards, hiring and mentoring. I have been the main technical contact for clients through full delivery cycles, which means I can talk to the people paying for the work as well as the people doing it.

I am a Bangladeshi national based in Dhaka, so an on-site role abroad would need sponsorship. North America, Europe, Australia and the Middle East are the likeliest fits, and I will consider anywhere else if the terms work.

How do you handle remote work and time zones?

Most of my career has been remote. I have worked with teams in New York, Vancouver and the Netherlands, so wide time-zone gaps are normal for me and I overlap with North American and European hours.

What kind of work suits you best?

Backend and architecture on products that need to last: APIs, data models, multi-tenant systems, and the testing and review culture around them. I am equally happy leading a team or working as a senior individual contributor.
