I am a full-stack software engineer based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, with 15 years of professional experience building production web applications and leading engineering teams since 2017. I am a core developer on Open Journal Systems at the Public Knowledge Project, and I maintain 15 open-source Laravel packages.

Most of my work is backend: architecture, APIs, database design, testing, deployment, and the production support that follows. I have worked with North American and European clients throughout my career, remotely, across wide time-zone gaps.

Open Journal Systems is the most widely used open-source scholarly publishing platform in the world, running 58,000+ journals across 156 countries. I have been a core developer on it since April 2022, alongside Open Monograph Press and Open Preprint Systems, with just over 1,000 merged commits across the four main PKP repositories.

My own packages are small, focused tools that came out of problems I hit on real projects. The largest, laravel-stub-generator, has around 175,000 installs. laravel-model-sanitize was featured on Laravel News in November 2021.

Backend Software Developer, Core Contributor

  • Core developer on Open Journal Systems (OJS), the world's most widely used open-source scholarly publishing platform, running 58,000+ journals across 156 countries, alongside Open Monograph Press (OMP) and Open Preprint Systems (OPS).
  • Top 10 contributor to both pkp/ojs and pkp/pkp-lib, with sustained work across the core application, data layer and APIs.
  • Modernized core infrastructure by introducing Laravel Eloquent, moving core and plugin API routing onto Laravel routing, building the queue and scheduler systems, and integrating the Blade templating engine.
  • Contributed to enhancements in the author submission, review and publication processes used across the editorial workflow.
  • Code review of community and core members' pull requests, support for external contributors, and maintenance of coding standards and automated testing in a fully distributed open-source team.

  • Lead the architecture and development of a multi-tenant SaaS ERP platform now serving 50+ dental and medical clinics across the Netherlands, built on Laravel, Vue and Node.
  • Tech lead for a team of 8 engineers. Designed the tenancy model, RBAC and core domain modules for clinic operations and billing.
  • Manage and own the full technical stack, from system design and database schema to REST APIs, deployment and production support, on a platform handling patient data under GDPR.

  • Led a 10 to 12 person engineering team and owned delivery for client platforms generating close to US$500K per month in combined revenue, including mitragaia.com.
  • Managed client relationships, scoping and planning from first requirement through to release, acting as the main technical point of contact.
  • Set technical direction and code review standards, and mentored developers across both client and internal projects.

  • Led the entire tech team of 10 to 12 engineers and managed the development flow of the company's flagship SaaS products.
  • Managed delivery of 80+ client projects across web and mobile, from scoping through to release.
  • Introduced agile practices, built and led the backend and API team, and originated new in-house product ideas.

Highlights

  • Top 10 contributor to both pkp/ojs and pkp/pkp-lib, with just over 1,000 merged commits across the four main PKP repositories. Also maintain 15 Laravel packages on Packagist with 195k+ combined installs, one of which, laravel-model-sanitize, was featured on Laravel News.
  • Have led engineering teams of up to 12 people since 2017 across three organizations, delivering 80+ client projects from scoping through release.
  • Designed multi-tenant SaaS and ERP platforms from the ground up, including the one now used by 50+ clinics in the Netherlands.

Availability

Available for hire, full-time or contract. I am a Bangladeshi national based in Dhaka, so an on-site role abroad would need visa sponsorship. North America, Europe, Australia and the Middle East are the likeliest fits, and I will consider anywhere else if the terms work. Remote roles are open regardless of location.
